Theory 001 is a pure expression of gin crafted with local botanicals. Wild California rose hips are paired with local Western Juniper to create a flavor unique to the Sierra Mountains. They are all tied together by our local water, filtered through centuries of granite. Theory 001 is the first in a series of Gin experiments.

Gin is a place to experiment and embrace the local flavors that we find throughout Truckee. Our Master Distiller and his team often forage the local forests, riverbanks and alpine surroundings in search of new inspiration. For Theory 001, Rosehips from the banks of the Truckee River provided the perfect compliment to the Juniper that forms the base flavor of all Gin. A day with friends and family yielded a bounty that comes through in every sip and is enhanced by your favorite mixers.

Botanicals

Gin starts with Juniper, and for Theory 001 we use a combination of Common Juniper and Western Juniper for a balanced approachable base. coriander, angelica peel, orange peel and rose hips are the foundational additions that our Master Distiller plays with to attain the right overall flavor. For Theory 001, we wanted a simple expression of Gin that paired well with your favorite cocktail.

Theory Gin 001 and the French 75


Theory Gin 001 is a classic and intentionally simple Gin that pairs well with a variety of cocktails. While the Gin Martini is an obvious choice (and make no mistake, Theory Gin 001 makes a damn fine Martini) The French 75 brings out the best of Theory Gin 001’s botanical mix.

The French 75 is a crisp, refreshing sparkling gin cocktail that’s perfect for holiday or festive gatherings.


INGREDIENTS
1 ½ ounces gin
¾ ounce fresh lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
¾ ounce honey based simple syrup (recipe below)
2.5 ounces Champagne (or enough to top the glass)
Lemon peel, for garnish

Honey simple syrup (yields enough for about 5 cocktails)
¼ cup honey
¼ cup water


DIRECTIONS

  1. To make the simple syrup: Combine the honey and water in a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat, stirring occasionally, just until the honey has blended with the water. Remove pot from the heat and let it cool.
  2. To make your cocktail: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in Theory Gin 001, lemon juice and the honey simple syrup. Fasten the top on the shaker and shake until well chilled, about 10-15 shakes. Strain into Champagne glasses and top with Champagne.
  3. Garnish with a twist of lemon, raise a glass and enjoy!
